The Secure Mobility Lab is part of the Helmholtz program "Engineering Digital Futures" and the Topic “Engineering Secure Systems” and focuses on advancing the security and resilience of future mobility. Within this lab, we address the protection of autonomous driving functions. Our research specifically targets the security and robustness of environment perception, which is a cornerstone of autonomous driving. These systems integrate sensors, control units, and machine learning algorithms to understand the vehicle’s surroundings. As vehicles become increasingly software-defined and AI-driven, their attack surface expands, raising critical challenges for both security and safety. Security vulnerabilities in this area could lead to compromised decision-making and safety-critical failures. We develop methods to identify, mitigate, and prevent such vulnerabilities throughout the vehicle development lifecycle
